Swim Meet 101

For all new and returning families, here is a rundown of how swim meet days work!

  • There IS practice the morning of a swim meet. Swimmers have a light practice followed by a team huddle where they find out what events they are swimming and a fun pep rally!
  • If your swimmer is 8 and under, there will be volunteers (wranglers) lining your swimmers up before their race. If your swimmer is 9 and up, they are expected to line themselves up or ask a coach/older gator for help.
  • The order of strokes are: IM, Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly, Relays
    • The order is always Boys then Girls for each age group per event
    • 9 & Up swim IM and 50s of each stroke
    • 6 & U only swim 25 free and 25 back
    • 7-8 swim 25s of each stroke
  • Things to bring to meets:
    • bathing suit, googles, towel, and cap (optional but recommended)
    • portable chairs (most pool have limited seating available)
    • water, Gatorade, snacks (or money for the concession stand!)
    • TEAM SPIRIT- WEAR LOTS OF GREEN AND WHITE!!
